Born on September 18,1972 in Angleton, TX. Derrick Harris attended Angleton High School from 1988-1990 before relocating to Missouri City, Texas and graduating from Willowridge High School, where he earned letters in football, baseball, track and basketball. Derrick also earned a football scholarship at The University of Miami where he showed himself to be an outstanding athlete, as well as humanitarian. Whether it was on the field where he still holds records in the shot put, bench press and squat or off the field where he donated his extra time to help care for handicapped children in the Miami Dade area

Derrick was later drafted by the St. Louis Rams. During he tenure with the National Football League Derrick helped organize and was a part of a range of charitable events including The Coat and Blanket Blitz, which collected hundreds of coats and blankets for The American Red Cross in St. Louis MO., Shoe Drive for underprivileged children, READ For Literacy, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as numerous volunteer speaking engagements. While playing for the St.Louis Rams in 1998 Derrick was awarded The Attitude Award by Coach Dick Vermeil and his teammates. The award was giving out every year to the player who best showed the attitude of a champion throughout the season. In 2001 while playing with the San Diego chargers Derrick received The NFL Man of The Year award given by Athletes International Ministries to the NFL player who puts as much effort into his faith and community as he puts into his profession. Derrick was honored along side guest such as Chuck Norris (actor), Michael Davis (basketball coach), Shawn Michaels (wrestler) and Jim Marshall (NFL Hall of Fame).

In his continuing effort to serve the community Derrick Harris along with Tyrone Smith established First and Goal Inc., an organization that embraces the opportunity to enrich, equip, and build into the lives of youth through dynamic and interactive programs. Derrick’s faith in Jesus Christ has empowered him to give 100% to everything he does and present himself a living testimony to show others “that all things work together for good to those who love Christ Jesus and are called according to his purpose.” Rom.8:28
